MeritPoint© Explanation Merit Points accumulate for every School Chess
Association sponsored tournament that you play in. A minimum of 1 Merit Point is awarded
for all players in all tournaments. For a 4 round tournament Merit Points are normalized to 5
rounds. Merit Points will be
equal to score multiplied by 5/4 and rounded up to the nearest 0.25 For a 4 or 5 round tournament first place is awarded 6
merit points total. Any
undefeated players who had no voluntary bye rounds are also awarded 6 Merit
Points total. Other trophies,
except the Novice trophy, are awarded 5 merit points total. Novice trophy winners receive merit
points corresponding to their score as described above (changed The STATEWIDE Elementary/Primary tournament is 7 rounds
awards 1 merit point for each win or 8 merit points total for 1st place and 7
merit points total for other trophies. For the Tournament of Champions tournament first place and those with perfect scores are awarded 6 Merit Points. All others are awarded Merit Points normalized to 5 rounds. Team vs. Team Merit Points are normalized to 5 rounds. That means if a player wins all rounds the player receives 5 merit points. Merit points are prorated for fewer or more rounds and rounded up to the nearest 0.25 point. An additional Merit Point is awarded if the player is undefeated and played all rounds not assigned a full point bye (no voluntary byes). Double Bughouse Merit Points are normalized to 5 rounds. That means if a team wins all rounds it's worth 5 Merit Points for each partner from play. Merit points are prorated for fewer or more rounds and rounded up to the nearest 0.25 point. The first place team players get 6 MPs total each and all other medal winners get 5 MPs total. Doubles Merit Points are normalized to 5 rounds. That means if a player wins all of their games it's worth 5 Merit Points for each partner from play. Merit points are prorated for fewer or more rounds and rounded up to the nearest 0.25 point. Each medal winner is awarded 1 additional Merit Point.
